Wedding Table Centrepieces

Your wedding table centrepieces are an important part of your wedding reception decorating so it is worth spending some time well in advance of your wedding to choose the right centrepiece design to make the most of your wedding theme and reception venue.  Consider the following questions when planning your centrepieces and you will make sure they enhance your overall wedding look and are enjoyed by your guests.

What type of tables are you using?

If you have round reception tables it is most effective to have one display in the centre of the table, but for long tables plan to use several smaller displays arranged along the length of the table.  You could also look for a centrepiece design that is continuous – for example one long container for flowers, or a piece of fabric or garland of ivy laid along the table with votive candles scattered along it.

  What size centrepiece will work?

The larger the table the bigger you will want your centrepiece to be to have impact and fill the available space.  It is important to consider your guests when you are planning your centrepiece design as an arrangement that stops them from seeing or talking to guests at the other side of the table could be irritating for them.  Either choose a low lying centrepiece or if you want a tall arrangement, make sure the bulk of the design is either above or below the guest’s head height when they are sitting down.  You can add height to a low design by using a few branches, tall candles or balloons that float above the table.

What will you put in your centrepieces?

Traditionally centrepieces are made of flowers and greenery, and there are many options to suit every style of wedding, however you do not need to stop at a floral design, and may even want to replace it all together.  Using your wedding theme will add impact to your centrepiece design and can draw the whole theme to your guests’ attention.  It is easy to add items to a floral centrepiece to accent the theme – whether they be objects like hanging hearts or stars, butterflies, birds or bees or strands of crystals or pearls.  You could also consider supplementing a floral arrangement with feathers, fall leaves or fruit, or replace the flowers altogether.  A collection of candles in beautiful holders, a bowl of water with floating candles or potted plants can all be used for centrepieces.

Can your centrepieces do double duty?

Planning to use your wedding favours as your reception table centrepieces may be an efficient and fun way to decorate your table.  A bowl of packages of beautifully wrapped candy or other food treats may make a stunning centrepiece, small containers can be arranged together to create the illusion of a large floral display and then divided at the end of the reception or a cupcake tower provides you with the perfect centrepiece – a display of lavishly decorated cakes that your guests will enjoy looking at and anticipate eating at the end of the evening.
